Cr2O3(Chromium trioxide) transmits IR light and is used as an absorption film and electrochromic film. It has a complex refractive index of 2.24 - 0.07i near 700 nm and a transmittance range from below 1.2 μm to 10 μm; however, these optical constants are strongly affected by the substrate temperature during deposition. Cr2O3 thin films are quite hard and have anti-corrosion and anti-wear properties; hence, they are used as buffer layers to improve adhesion or as oxidation-resistant coatings.
